Black History Month Recital
The Black History Month Poetry Recital was performed in February of
1989 at Children's Hospital in Oakland, California. Charles organized a
series of Poetry recitals that was promoted as The Brown Bag Poetry
Program. The following recital came at the climax of the month long
event.
The fifteen minute presentation features two original verses from
Charles' collections; Among The 1st To Fall and Dauntless. They are
followed by The Creation, written by James Weldon Johnson and
Summer's Night, Relax and Request written by Charlyne Martin.
The verses are performed over musical selections by: Merle Saunders
(Blues From The Rain Forest), Michael Masley (Cymbalom Solos) and
Carlos Santana (Si Parti)
